This work provides a detailed structure of the vascular niche within the bone marrow. Of the cells found within this vascular niche were the primitive CD150+ CD48- presumptive hematopoietic stem cells. Disruption of the endothelial cells via VEGFR2 ablation resulted in the destruction of this niche’s capacity to support the hematopoietic stem cells.
