This is the first demonstration that freshly isolated human umbilical cord blood-derived hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells expand on the VeraVec platform. The expansion gives rise to a multilineage engraftment in primary and secondary recipients. Most notably, the incidence of long term repopulating stem cells within the expanded population is higher when co-cultured with VeraVecs compared to freshly isolated and cytokine expanded conditions.
